Is flying a drone in Iceland legal?
Yes, it’s legal to fly drones in Iceland, but there are rules and regulations in place to protect the environment and wildlife. Our guides are knowledgeable about these laws and will ensure all drone flights comply with local regulations. DroneTrails will also have taken care of all of the needed permits from the Icelandic aviation authority and the environment agency.

What type of drones are recommended for this tour?
Any drone suitable for aerial photography or videography is ideal. We recommend drones with good stability and camera quality for high winds and dramatic landscapes. Popular choices include DJI Mavic, Mini and Air series, but all brands are welcome.
What happens if my drone crashes or is lost during the tour?
We recommend having insurance like DJI Care Refresh for your drone in case of accidents. Our guides provide safety briefings, but flying in Iceland’s unpredictable weather can be challenging. In the case of a lost or a broken drone we will have an extra drone available or ways to replace the lost one with minimum cost.
What should I pack for the tour?
Be prepared for Iceland’s diverse weather! We recommend warm, waterproof clothing, sturdy shoes, extra batteries for your drone, and any camera accessories you may need.
