FAQ
About the Tours
What is DroneTrails?
DroneTrails is a unique guided drone adventure in Iceland, designed for drone enthusiasts of all levels. We take you to Iceland’s most stunning and drone-friendly locations, providing time, space, and guidance to capture the beauty of Iceland from the skies.
Do I need experience flying a drone to join the tour?
No prior experience is required! Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pilot, our tours cater to all skill levels. Magnus, your guide, will offer support, tips, and guidance to help you fly safely and confidently.
How long are the tours?
Our tours typically range from 1-day to multi-day adventures, depending on your chosen itinerary. Each day is packed with incredible flying spots and ample time to explore and capture aerial footage.
Will I get enough time to fly my drone at each location?
Absolutely! We schedule ample time at each stop so you can explore, fly your drone, and capture incredible footage without feeling rushed.
Are there any restrictions on flying drones in Iceland?
Yes, Iceland has specific drone regulations that must be followed. We ensure that all our tours comply with local regulations, and we will brief you on safety, no-fly zones, and drone etiquette before each flight. We also take care of all flying permissions with local authorities.
Equipment and Safety
What type of drones are recommended
Any drone suitable for aerial photography or videography is ideal. We recommend drones with good stability and camera quality for high winds and dramatic landscapes. Popular choices include DJI Mavic, Phantom, and Air series, but all brands are welcome.
Do I need to bring my own drone?
Yes, we recommend that you bring your own drone for the tour. If you don’t have one, feel free to contact us, and we can help you arrange a rental for your adventure.
What happens if my drone crashes or is lost during the tour?
We recommend having insurance like DJI Care Refresh for your drone in case of accidents. Our guides provide safety briefings, but flying in Iceland’s unpredictable weather can be challenging. In the case of a lost or a broken drone we will have an extra drone available or ways to replace the lost one with minimum cost.
What Happens if We Can’t Fly Due to Weather?
At Drone Trails, your safety and experience are our top priorities. Iceland’s weather can be unpredictable, and while we aim to fly at all scheduled stops, there may be times when conditions make it unsafe or impossible to fly. If that happens, here’s what you can expect:
Alternative Scenic Experiences:
If weather prevents us from flying, we’ll transform the tour into an unforgettable sightseeing adventure. You’ll still explore Iceland’s most breathtaking locations, with extended time to take in the beauty of the landscapes up close. Our guides will lead you through spectacular ground-level experiences at iconic spots.Flexible Itinerary Adjustments:
If weather conditions improve later in the day, we’ll adjust the schedule to fit in flying opportunities when and where it becomes safe. We’re committed to maximizing your experience, and our guides are skilled in making real-time adjustments to ensure you still get the best out of the tour.Expert Guidance and Transparency:
Our team closely monitors the weather throughout the day and makes decisions with your safety and satisfaction in mind. You’ll be kept informed every step of the way, and our guides will explain the situation and alternative plans clearly.
While we can’t control the weather, we’re dedicated to ensuring that your experience with Drone Trails is exceptional—whether you’re flying above Iceland’s dramatic landscapes or enjoying a guided sightseeing tour from the ground. If you have any questions or concerns, our team is always available to assist.
What should I pack for the tour?
Be prepared for Iceland’s diverse weather! We recommend warm, waterproof clothing, sturdy shoes, extra batteries for your drone, and any camera accessories you may need.
Photography and Footage
Can I bring other photography equipment besides drones?
Absolutely! While our focus is on drones, many participants bring traditional cameras to capture landscapes from the ground as well.
