4-Day Iceland Drone Workshop with Danny McGee

Explore and film some of the most amazing landscapes on the planet
with a crew of likeminded people

Join our 4-Day Drone Adventure in Iceland

I’m Danny McGee — filmmaker, drone pilot, and guy who’s spent more time flying drones in Iceland than any other country I’ve visited.

Iceland’s one of those places I just keep coming back to.
It’s a drone pilots heaven. It’s got everything —glaciers, mountains, waterfalls, epic canyons, volcanoes… not to mention amazing gas station hot dogs… I’ve been wanting to put together a trip like this for years, and I’m teaming up with DroneTrails to finally make it happen.

This is a 4-day workshop for a small group of people who love flying, filming, going on epic adventures, and connecting with like minded people from all over the world. We’ll be taking you to some of my favorite spots on the South Coast of Iceland over the course of 4 days.

In addition to flying, I’ll be covering how I approach shooting, storytelling and how to get the most out of each location.

I’ll also be sharing how I was able to turn my love for flying drones into a full time job where I get paid to travel the world. Magnus, who is a native Icelander and owner of DroneTrails will be joining us throughout the trip.

I am super stoked about this because local knowledge is invaluable. DroneTrails takes care of drone permits for the whole group, so all you have to do is show up and fly.

Whether you’re a seasoned pro or beginner, this trip is perfect for all skill levels – You just need to be up for the adventure.

What we will be doing

  1. Cinematic flying sessions in Iceland’s most jaw-dropping landscapes.
  2. On-location coaching — Learn how to create top level content on site. Filming techniques, framing, movement, storytelling.
  3. Hands-on time with me — As this is a small group trip – we’ll have plenty of one on one time to work on what you specifically need help with.
  4. A creative crew — As this is a small group trip – we’ll have plenty of one on one time to work on what you specifically need help with.
  5. The business of flying drones — I’ll be sharing how I was able to work with brands, grow a following and turn my passions into a full time job.

Meet the Guides
Danny McGee

Hey, I’m Danny — a filmmaker, drone pilot, and full-time explorer based in Colorado. Over the past few years, I’ve dedicated my life to capturing the world from the sky. I’ve flown drones all over the world - from 20,000 ft mountains in peru to volcanos in guatemala to glaciers in iceland and vast deserts in Utah. I’ve had the chance to work with brands like Google, Red Bull, DJI, GoPro and Sony, telling stories that inspire people to see the world differently. I’m passionate about helping others tap into their creativity, and if they want, make a living out of it. Whether you're new to drones or a seasoned pilot, my goal is to help you level up your skills, sharpen your eye for cinematic shots, and leave this experience with unforgettable memories — and even better footage.

Tour Details

Yes, we recommend that you bring your own drone for the tour. If you don’t have one, feel free to contact us, and we can help you arrange a rental for your adventure.

Yes, there will be some hiking, especially during the highlands part of the trip, so moderate fitness level is recommended.

Our tours are designed for drone hobbyists, professionals, and photographers alike! Whether you’re a beginner or an expert, all skill levels are welcome.

Absolutely! We schedule ample time at each stop so you can explore, fly your drone, and capture incredible footage without feeling rushed.

Yes, it’s legal to fly drones in Iceland, but there are rules and regulations in place to protect the environment and wildlife. Our guides are knowledgeable about these laws and will ensure all drone flights comply with local regulations. DroneTrails will also have taken care of all of the needed permits from the Icelandic transportation authority and the environment agency.

Equipment and Safety

Any drone suitable for aerial photography or videography is ideal. We recommend drones with good stability and camera quality for high winds and dramatic landscapes. Popular choices include DJI Mavic, Mini and Air series, but all brands are welcome.

We recommend having insurance like DJI Care Refresh for your drone in case of accidents. Our guides provide safety briefings, but flying in Iceland’s unpredictable weather can be challenging. In the case of a lost or a broken drone we will have an extra drone available or ways to replace the lost one with minimum cost.

At Drone Trails, your safety and experience are our top priorities. Iceland’s weather can be unpredictable, and while we aim to fly at all scheduled stops, there is more likely than not there will be times when conditions make it unsafe or impossible to fly. If that happens, here’s what you can expect:

  1. Alternative Scenic Experiences:
If weather prevents us from flying, we’ll transform the tour into an unforgettable sightseeing adventure. You’ll still explore Iceland’s most breathtaking locations, with extended time to take in the beauty of the landscapes up close. Our guides will lead you through spectacular ground-level experiences at iconic spots.

  2. Flexible Itinerary Adjustments:
If weather conditions improve later in the day, we’ll adjust the schedule to fit in flying opportunities when and where it becomes safe. We’re committed to maximizing your experience, and our guides are skilled in making real-time adjustments to ensure you still get the best out of the tour.

  3. Expert Guidance and Transparency:
Our team closely monitors the weather throughout the day and makes decisions with your safety and satisfaction in mind. You’ll be kept informed every step of the way, and our guides will explain the situation and alternative plans clearly.

While we can’t control the weather, we’re dedicated to ensuring that your experience with Drone Trails is exceptional—whether you’re flying above Iceland’s dramatic landscapes or enjoying a guided sightseeing tour from the ground. If you have any questions or concerns, our team is always available to assist.

Be prepared for Iceland’s diverse weather! We recommend warm, waterproof clothing, sturdy shoes, extra batteries for your drone, and any camera accessories you may need.

Photography and Footage

Absolutely! While our focus is on drones, many participants bring traditional cameras to capture landscapes from the ground as well.

Yes! Our experienced guides are passionate drone experts and will offer tips and workshops throughout the tour to help you get the most out of your drone footage.
